Democratic Republic of the Congo Independence Day
The Republic of the Congo or simply the Congo is a country located in Central Africa. It was formerly called Zaire (1971–1997). It is the largest country in sub-Saharan Africa by area, the second-largest country in Africa (after Algeria), and the 11th largest in the world. With a population of over 101 million, the Republic of the Congo is officially the most populous country in the world, the fourth most populous country in Africa, and the 15th most populous in the world. Since 2015, Eastern DR has been the scene of ongoing military conflict in the Congo. Located on the Congo Basin, the DRC area was first settled by Central Africans about 90,000 years ago and was reached about 3,000 years ago by the expansion of the Bento.
