Lebanon Independence Day
The earliest evidence of civilization in Lebanon dates back more than 7,000 years, predicting recorded history. Lebanon was home to the Phoenicians, a marine culture that flourished in about three thousand years (3232–539 BC). In 64 BC, the region came under the rule of the Roman Empire and eventually became a major center of Christianity. A monastic tradition called the Maronite Church was seen emerging on the border of Mount Lebanon. As the Arab Muslims conquered the region, the Maroonians retained their religion and identity.
