North Macedonia Independence Day
Northern Macedonia officially the Republic of Northern Macedonia is a country in Southeast Europe. It gained independence from Yugoslavia’s successor states in 1991. Macedonia is a territory bordering Kosovo [e] to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. This is about the northern third of the large geographical region of Macedonia. The capital and largest city, Skopje, is home to a quarter of the country’s 2.06 million people. The majority of the inhabitants are South Slackites. Albanians make up about 25 percent of the population, followed by Turks, Romans, Serbs, Bosnians, and Armenians.
